Message I am still waiting for an answer to that question. I emailed some engineers that question and haven't received a response. The early ('90-'91) auto transmissions and driveshafts for the coupe and especially the 2+2, seem to be poorly designed and prone to wear out prematurely.

Notice that the driveshaft center bearing is made out of rubber and also located directly above the catalytic converter. Only a paper thin heat shield is used to protect the bearing from the heat given off by the cats.
Over time, the bearing will wear out. This will in turn cause the angle between the front of the driveshaft to the trans and the rear of the driveshaft to the differential to change. That will put additional strain on the u-joints, which in turn will cause driveline vibrations, which in turn may put some additional stress on the rear transmission bearings. The I think its a stupid design, but if anyone disagrees please feel free to comment.
